Es ist auf dieser Erden doch lauter Eitelkeit, zu Nichts muß alles werden und sterben mit der Zeit.

Gleich wie des Mondes Scheinen, bald zu, bald abenimmt, also auch Freud und Weinen in stetem Wechsel sind.

Der Starke kann leicht fallen. Das Glück ist wie ein Rad, sein Auf- und Niederwallen allzeit betrogen hat.

Nichts Sichres kann ich finden, nichts seh ich, das besteht: gleich wie der Staub von Winden wird in der Luft verweht;

so muß auf dieser Erden auch alles mit der Zeit vergen zunichte werden es ist nur Eitelkeit.

Drum will ich mich ablenken von diesem falschen Schein, mein Herze will ich schenken dem höchsten Gott allein.

I can find nothing certain, I see nothing that stands: like the dust of winds is blown away in the air;

so everything on this earth has to come to naught as time goes on, it's just vanity.

That's why I want to distract myself from this false appearance, I want to give my heart to the highest God alone.

After all, nothing on earth is just vanity, everything must become nothing and die over time.
