Liebes Kind, bleib gern im Stande,

der gering und niedrig ist;

Lass die Welt nach Hoheit trachten;

besser wahrlich ist zu achten,

wenn man damit ist vergnügt,

wieder liebe Gott verfügt.

Bist du aber hoch erhaben,

bilde dir damit nichts ein.

Lass den Zierrat aller Gaben,

Demut, deine Zierde sein!

So wird dich der Herr belieben,

der uns Demut fürbeschrieben.

Er der allerhöchste Gott

macht die Stolzen nur zu Spott.

Tut hingegen grosse Dinge

durch die, so voll Demut sind;

darum achte dich geringe,

so verbleibst du Gottes Kind.

Denke Stultus und der Stolze

wachsen stets auf einem Holze,

Demut aber muss nicht Schein,

sondern in dem Herzen sein.

Suche nicht durch deine Künste,

die dir Gott gegeben hat,

eitlen Ruhm noch sonst Gewinste,

halte bei dir fleissig Rat,

welches erstlich Gottes Ehre,

dann des Nächsten Nutzen mehre.

Was nun dies tut allermeist,

darauf lege sich dein Geist,

welches erstlich Gottes Ehre,

dann des Nächsten Nutzen mehre.
